13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program

My 13-inch MacBook Pro Display 13-inch MacBook Pro Display was perfectly working when the other day the screen suddenly turned it on but the screen was was black. In the last months I noticed that the brightness was loosing power, but now I can’t see anything, although the Mac is working (for example once turned on the caps lock works). I tried all the tests about Safe Boot and NVRAM reset, but nothing.

I have booked a Genius appointment as I understood there is 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program running that is regarding this issue. However, Apple said I do not qualified for this program since the laptop was 5 year old. therefore to replace the screen I would require to pay charge of £400 or to buy a new Laptop. I really find this situation truly disappointing since this is a factory defect from APPLE and I only came across this problem last month. I don't see the logic of having a 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program open and restricting to the sales date! The laptops is running well apart from the laptop why should I have to buy a new computer? Very disappointed with Apple.
