I have always used itunes and apple music and am now running into difficulties with storage on my computer. According to my settings app my music is taking up over 100GB however I do not have that much music and believe it has been automatically accumulating in my itunes media folder. Why does this happen when none of my songs are downloaded and itunes won't let me listen to them without a wifi connection?

What "settings app" are you referring to?
Have you looked in the iTunes Media folder using Windows Explorer and if so, what is the music that is in there?
Don't forget, there is a difference between Apple Music and streamed music. When you stream music, it is "stored" and "played" online and that is then sent to your device as it is being played. As far as I understand it, Apple Music can be downloaded to (and therefore stored on) your computer for as long as your subscription is valid. It can then "played" by iTunes and copied onto portable devices. So it might be Apple Music (I don't use Apple Music so I don't know exactly how it works).
iTunes might cache some of the content you listen to. Check inside the Apple Music folder inside your iTunes Media folder. You might also check the Downloads folder in the iTunes Media folder. If you stream all your content then both of these folders could be emptied should they contain any content, or you could delete the folders and allow iTunes to recreate them if it wants/needs to.

Yeah I have been using apple music and streaming music, do not see how this should increase storage though as I am streaming from the service not my computer?
