I have an earlier model of Apple TV box.... can I not download Direct TV Stream on this box?

I don't see an icon for the APP Store on the Apple TV screen.....

The Apple TV (3rd generation) indeed doesn’t have an App Store. The automatically loaded apps are what is available for this model. This model is unfortunately not compatible with the DirecTV app.
The App Store for Apple TV was introduced with the Apple TV (4th generation) model.
The DirecTV app now requires system software version 12.0 or later on the newer models Apple TV box.
For this service you will want to get a newer model Apple TV box.
