Can't see Photo albums, etc. in upload dialog box

On my old Macbook Pro, when uploading from Photos (under Media), the dialog box was split into two sections: one where I could choose from various "folders," like Videos, Favorites, Albums, etc. and the other that contained the photos. On my new Macbook, the dialog box only has one area, and it contains the photos. So I can't choose an album, favorites, etc. for my upload.

Also, the dropdown menu at the top that is supposed to allow me to choose whether I want to view the photos as icons, a list or columns isn't working. If I choose any one of those three, all of the photos disappear. I have to close out and go back in for them to show up again - and they always as thumbnails/icons.

Anyone else? Thank you.

Seems to be a glitch in Ventura Photos. Nobody likes it. The search field is available, so you can choose a picture by searching for a file name, title, or keyword. Or, you can, in Photos, export the picture to the desktop or somewhere of your choice, and load the picture from there.

So irritating. One of the reasons I bought this new macbook was so I wouldn't have to export pictures locally (for speed and space reasons). And now I still have to do it...but for another reason. It's not just ventura, though. This has been a problem the whole time I've had this new macbook - since last June. Too many things that don't work right. Thank you for answering.
