Updating Cloud Music Library doesn't stop spinning

I'm on my macbook. I have had my music app open for three days and at the bottom left, the message is "Updating Cloud Music Library" - it never completes. I don't have Apple Music. I don't want Apple Music. What can I do?

You might need to force quit Music and/or restart your computer.

Use Music > Preferences > General tab > Uncheck Sync Library to turn off Apple Music features.

Have you accidentally activated a free trial? Are you part of a family sharing group where someone might have purchased a family subscription to Apple Music?

See If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support.
