iMac says usb accessories disabled bu none are connected

no usb ports in use but iMac says usb accessories are disabled, what's going on

iMac Line (2012 and Later)

Could be a bad USB port. Remember on newer Macs, there are the older traditional USB-A ports, but also the newer style USB-C ports. If you have anything connected to a USB-C port...then it may be the problem, even if it is a Thunderbolt device (perhaps the cable or device is bad). Also, some internal items like the built-in Camera is considered a USB device.
