How Can I Go to Current Song Without Leaving Songs View?

Any thoughts on how to make the Go to Current Song command work the way it did with iTunes?

I like Songs view. It allows me to take in a lot of information at once, like a spreadsheet. Since OS X Catalina was released, and the Music app replaced iTunes Music, the Go to Current Song command has changed. It now takes me out of Songs view, and makes getting back to it more difficult than it needs to be.

With iTunes, the Go to Current Song command, or the ⌘L shortcut, would scroll (or shift) the Songs view to show the song currently playing without leaving the Songs view, and highlight it. With Music, the Go to Current Song command changes the view from Songs view to the Show Album in Library view, a command that can be found in the Song menu. There is no "Show Song in Library" view command under the Song menu or any other.

Taking me out of Songs view by switching to Show Album in Library view takes me out seeing the song currently playing in the context of my full music library. It's jarring.

Unfortunately, the only way to return to Songs view is a mouse move: click the "🔙" button above the album image, or the Songs icon in the Side Panel under Library. You have to take your hands off the keyboard so it's an annoying interruption of work flow.

The only way to go to the song currently playing without entering the Show Album in Library view is to pause it with spacebar, then press the spacebar to get it playing again. This is not ideal.

I'm trying to think up an Automator workaround, but I'd like to think there's an easier way to stay in Songs view when I Go to Current Song.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I completely agree—I can't stand this feature. I don't know what purpose it serves. The album view doesn't really tell me anything. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I could select the metadata I wanted to see in album view (Command-J), but that's not an option. The only workaround I've found is to listen to songs on playlists rather than in the main library. Command-L then takes you to the song in whatever view you have set up in the playlist.
