Saying family sharing is full, but it isn’t

I have the 2 Tb iCloud plan and I’m sharing it with my wife and my mother who we’re visiting now and I wanted to check that it was working with her. Seems like she hadn’t activated/accepted it, so I did that and started a backup of her iPad which worked well, but when I tried that on her iPhone, it only says that the family sharing is full and that she could ask me to purchase a better plan. Well, there isn’t any better plan and it’s far from full since it’s around 1,5 terabytes left of free space, so how do I fix that?

Well, as I wrote, it’s far from full. No need to create more space in other words and as I also wrote, I have the 2 terabyte plan and to my knowledge there’s no bigger one to be purchased.

But when I checked her iPhone just a while ago, it seems like it had completed a backup, so I guess it just needed some time to grasp what was going on :)

I meant to go back here to edit my post and eventually delete it, but it’s been a busy day, but the problem solved itself, whatever it was.

Hello Wilfred Hildonen,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

We understand you're able to complete a backup on the iPad of your mother, but not her iPhone with the same iCloud account, right?

If we have that right, this may be related to the current iOS version installed. If an update is needed, this may need to be done with a computer first to allow iCloud to communicate properly with the iPhone. Should this be needed, check out the following resource for assistance: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If the latest iOS version is installed on the iPhone, give the steps below a try to see if they work. You can find additional steps that may be helpful here: If you can't back up to iCloud - Apple Support

If an alert says that there's not enough iCloud storage

1. In iOS or iPadOS, go to Settings > [your name].

2. Tap iCloud. At the top, you can check how much iCloud storage you've used.

3. Tap Manage Account Storage or Manage Storage.

4. Tap Backups, then tap the device you're using. Under Last Backup and Backup Size, you can check Next Backup Size. It may take a few minutes for your device to calculate Next Backup Size.

5. If your backup needs more space than the amount you have available in iCloud, you can:

• Delete information that you don't need to reduce the size of your backup

• Upgrade your iCloud+ plan to get more space

6. If you still need help, contact Apple Support.

We hope that's able to help. If not, confirm which steps you've taken so far and confirm the iOS version. We'll use these details to gain a better understanding to provide you with the best next steps to take.

Have a great day!
