Sidecar losing connection every 5 seconds

I have exactly the same issue as described here:

Sidecar keeps Losing Connection - Apple Community

Mac Mini 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 32 GB & iPad Pro 2017

Sidecar worked perfectly, until I upgraded Mac Mini to Ventura 13.0

I updated both devices to latest OS: MacOS 13.1, iPadOS 16.2

Unfortunately, this issue remains and I cannot longer use my iPad to mirror my display of my Mac mini with sidecar. Resetting network and bluetooth, changing 2.4Hz to 5Hz, and other stuff did resolveer this problem.

Experiencing the same issue as well since updated 13.0.1.

  • connects fine and usable
  • 5 seconds passes and loses connection
  • 5 seconds passes and reconnects find
  • repeat over and over for about 3 minutes and then macbook says timeout

I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet.

Same issue, with a Mac mini 2018 and iPad Pro 10.5-inch connected via USB-C cable. Seen most recently with macOS Ventura 13.2.0 and iOS 16.2.

  • After the bad state occurs, in some cases, the iPad's networking seems broken. The iPad doesn't know the Mac has given up; it (the iPad) still displays the Lost Connection screen with the Disconnect button. Unplugging the USB-C cable from the Mac doesn't help.
  • Rebooting the iPad is a reliable workaround. After the reboot, all the iPad’s normal functioning is restored, both networking (if it was broken; sometimes it isn't) and Sidecar. But the bad state occurs again after a few days or a week.
  • I tried resetting the networking on the iPad. The issue occurred again after I did that.

Greetings suite156,

To clarify, you mentioned that Sidecar is losing connection, does that mean it is also reconnecting after that? If not, are you having to manually reconnect?

Please be sure that you have also tested using a wired connection and if you have, does the same thing happen where you are seeing a "Lost Connection" error screen?

Let’s also be certain of a few things. For reference, we’re going to verify things from the following link, as well as a few more - Use an iPad as a second display for a Mac

Your Mac and iPad are signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID.

- Settings > your name

- Apple menu > System Settings

Ensure the Mac and iPad are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, meaning both are on either the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network

Also, double check that there hasn’t been an accidental blocking of your own Apple ID on either device.

- On macOS go to FaceTime > Preferences > Blocked

- On iPadOS go to Settings > Messages > Blocked Contacts

Thanks.

This is what worked for me and my 2023 M2 MacBook Pro 16" (clean install of macOS 13.2 Ventura) and 12.9" iPad Pro (3rd Gen) running iPad OS 16.3:

With the iPad connected to the laptop, and under the MacBook's "Displays" settings, you should be able to select the iPad. I turned off the "Linked keyboard and mouse" and set it to "Extended display". That has made it a LITTLE MORE reliable, but I still get random disconnects whenever I try to move the mouse between screens.
