Casting from Mac (Ventura) with external dvd player to TV

I have an external DVD player which seems to work fine in conjunction with the Mac itself. And I can screen mirror to my LG TV with no problem. But the combination does not work. As soon as I go to mirroring, the DVD app just displays a gray box, overwriting the video (apparently). I'm guessing it has something to do with resolving conflicts in resolution or the like, but do not know how to go about fixing the problem. Suggestions? Thanks!

are you using airplay or a cable to mirror to the TV? I have seen issues where the situation you are facing is because of trying to do that with airplay. I use an HDMI cable and adapter for that purpose and have not had issues playing DVDs, protected or otherwise.
