Switching Accounts still old iMessages from original account?

I switched accounts on an iPad today from the original owner to a family member, ios 16.1.1. The iMessages from the old account are still on there, they want messages from the new account. When I go to messages > Settings > Messages > Tap Send & Receive > Use your Apple ID for iMessage, the new account email is there but the phone number is not there. I realized that the phone number for the new account was not logged in her iCloud Account, so I went and entered her number there also. Restarted the iPad and her phone number is still not there, and there is no option to enter it there, what is going on guys?

Hi OldFart_22,

Is the family member that's using the iPad use an iPhone? If so they will need to use the same Apple ID they are signed into Messages with on that phone. If not, they will only be able to use their Apple ID to send and receive iMessages on the iPad. You can learn more here:

"When you sign in to iMessage on your iPad, your messages are kept up to date, backed up, and available on all your Apple devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID. When you communicate with others using iMessage, you can use more apps and features, like read receipts, undo send, message editing, audio messages, collaboration, replies, and more.

Go to Settings > Messages, then turn on iMessage.
To select the phone numbers and email addresses you want to use with iMessage, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, then choose from the available options below “You can receive iMessages to and reply from.”"
