Contacts-- unable to change the group of a contact card

In contacts, I used to be able to drag a card from one group to a different group. Apple. has removed this ability (along with a LOT of other features) and I want it back. Someone PLEASE tell me how to move a contact from one group to another.

iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021, 2 ports)

What works for me is to select a contact in a list and drag it to another list.
