Allow assistive access on Shortcuts (macOS Ventura 13.1)

When trying to run a Shortcut that runs an Applescript that requires assistive access I always get the following error:

"System Events got an error: Shortcuts is not allowed assistive access."

I have made sure that Shortcuts and Script Editor both are allowed assistive access under System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Accessibility and restarted my machine to be sure.

Any suggestions on how to enable assistive access for Shortcuts? I have checked the script itself and it runs properly if launched from Script Editor or Terminal (after giving the corresponding app the required accessibility permission)

Thanks!

Hi casanabria,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

It sounds like you have checked the correct place in System Settings. Also check this page of the larger user guide: Adjust basic privacy settings in Shortcuts on Mac.

"Give a shortcut access to required data

When you run a shortcut, the Shortcuts app requests access to necessary data.

  1. In the Shortcuts app  on your Mac, run a shortcut.
  2. If a Privacy dialog appears requesting access to data, choose Allow Once, Always Allow, or Don’t Allow.
  3. If you choose Always Allow, the Shortcuts app won’t ask you for access the next time you run the shortcut.

Remove a shortcut’s access to data

If you previously chose Always Allow when a shortcut requested access to necessary data, you can override that decision.

  1. In the Shortcuts app  on your Mac, double-click a shortcut.
  2. The shortcut editor opens.
  3. Click  to open Details.
  4. Click Privacy.

Note: If you don’t see the Privacy tab, the shortcut does not have access to your data.

5.Deselect an option—for example, Location or Safari.

6.To remove access to all data for this shortcut, click Reset Privacy."

If it's still not resolved, we'd suggest contacting Apple Support for a deeper dive.

Have a fantastic day!
