Auto-connect not working for WiFi Hotspot in GM vehicle

We’ve had a Wi-Fi hotspot in our car for a couple of years. My iPhone has always auto connected after starting the car. It recently stopped auto connecting even though I still have auto join on. I have to manually select the Wi-Fi every time I get in the car. My husband has a Samsung and has no issue with auto connecting.

Problem continues and there is no other “auto join” issues with any other preferred network when phone enters one. This is a vehicle only issue and many, many people have this issue which only became an issue recently. OnStar & AT&T are partners with the WiFi hotspot connections but they point the finger at each other and the service we the people pay good money for is wasted by having to get in the car, go to settings, WiFi, select hotspot in order to get connected.

Do better.

Hello Lauriema2,

Let's use the steps below to forget the Wi-Fi network for your vehicle:

To forget the network that you're currently using:

1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
2. Tap the info button  next to the network you're using.
3. Tap Forget This Network, then tap Forget to confirm.

To forget a network that you've joined before but aren't currently using:

1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
2. Tap Edit in the corner of the screen to see the networks known to your device.
3. Take either of these actions:
• Tap the delete button , then tap Delete.
• Or tap the info button  next to the network, tap Forget This Network, then tap Forget to confirm.

You can also find those steps in this resource: How to forget a Wi-Fi network on iPhone, iPad, or Mac Afterwards, you'll want to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network. That process can help further isolate a networking conflict.

Should that still persist, are you experiencing this behavior with any other Wi-Fi networks?

Let us know, and we'll keep moving forward from there.

Thanks for trying to help Chuck. I have actually taken this step numerous times before you suggested it. I have completely forgotten the network, left it for days, gone back and reconnected only to find the same thing. Every time the car is shut off. This only happens in our vehicle. I can connect to all other known networks automatically. And as the post below states, this only started happening a couple months ago. This is maddening because we purchased Internet services in the car to save our data plan and I am constantly finding that I forgot to manually connect so I am using my data and not the vehicle Internet. I’ve seen so many posts about this, there’s got to be a fix.
