Mac mini display goes black

New mac mini is hooked via HDMI cable to an ASUS display. Periodically the display goes black for about 2 seconds while in use. This has occured during video chats, online use and while watching videos. The video goes completely black. No degredation of image quality prior to going black or upon return of image. All software is up to date. Connection is good. Any suggestions?
