Yahoo Server Calendar Error 504

Constantly getting the following error for my Yahoo calendar: The request for account “Yahoo!” failed. The server responded with “504” to operation CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation.

Using old references (nearly 10 years ago) from the Apple Support Community, I have tried deselecting/re-selecting the calenard on the Yahoo account in internet settings. Also have deleted and re-installed the Yahoo account. The error message always comes back. The Yahoo calendar still seems to be updating between my MacBook Air and iPhone and iPad...

Anyone have any other ideas? Since the Yahoo calendar still seems to sync...is it even worth bothering to fix?

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 12.6

Hey there kardstar55,

That is a strange thing to occur, especially since it works without any issues on your other devices. You've already tried some great steps already, and we'd like to continue ruling out some other possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

  1. You mentioned that your Yahoo account has no issues within Calendar on three devices, but on which device model are you seeing the message?
  2. Which OS version is installed on your device with the issue? If your Mac is not up to date, please update using these instructions: Update macOS on Mac.
  3. When did this first start?
  4. Any issues when logging into your Yahoo account from their website, then checking your Calendar?
  5. Do you have other accounts you sync with Calendars, and if yes, do they have any issues?

Cheers!

Hey kardstar55,

Got it. Have you had a chance to run Connection Doctor yet? You've already done some great troubleshooting but sometimes Connection Doctor can find issues with server related details that could explain the problem that you're having. Here's the steps to run it from: Use Connection Doctor in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

  1. "In the Mail app  on your Mac, choose Window > Connection Doctor.
  2. Review the status information.
  3. If you’re connected to the internet, there may be a problem with the account’s mail servers or your account setup. Follow the instructions shown in the Details column. To quickly display the account in Accounts preferences in Mail, double-click the text in the Details column.
  4. To show log information while Mail tries to connect to mail servers, click Show Detail, then click Check Again.
  5. When you’re done, click Check Again to verify if your actions resolved the problem.
  6. If the problem persists, contact your email account provider to verify your account details and setup."

Keep us updated!

Hello kardstar55,

Boot into safe mode to see if you get the same error. Safe mode can clear caches and bypass software that can cause conflicts. Depending on the results you get when using safe mode, follow the additional recommendations in this article: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Intel processor
1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift keyas your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities, and have a great day!

Jeff: Thanks for your response, thoughts and questions. Taking them one at a time:

  1. The error message occurs only on my circa early 2015 MacBook Air 11.5".
  2. I'm running the current macOS: Monterey macOS 12.6.2 -- having just installed the latest update only a few days ago.
  3. I first noticed the problem about a month ago, but perhaps it had been occurring longer, because as I say, the Yahoo calendar entries appear to be showing up on all of my shared calendar devices -- which include the MacBook Air, an iPhone 13 and a current generation iPad (not sure exactly the model, but I bought it in August).
  4. No issues logging into Yahoo account and accessing the calendar. However, I have now stopped using the calendar for new entries after noticing the error message. Even though it seems to sync across devices, for now it just seems prudent to switch to another calendaring platform, which, for now, is Google.
  5. I also sync with Google and iCloud and have no issues.

The Yahoo calendar was my primary platform until now -- and contains recurring dates, birthdays, holidays, etc., so I would rather not move completely away from it.

Again, thanks for any help.

kardstar55,

If this is occurring only a Mac, it may be worth considering if the server that is set up to add the CalDAV account is a mobile server attempting to be accessed via a computer. Are you entering the calendar information manually or letting the setup happen with the automatic setup?

Since this is a MacBook Air, are you able to connect with another Wi-Fi network and see if the same message shows? That’s going to help isolate the network.

Thanks.

Thanks, interesting questions. Here's what I know:

I don't know if the Yahoo server is mobile server. I can only say that I've used the CalDAV account setup for many many years prior to this -- on this MacBook Air and a previous one I owned -- with no problems (e.g., no 504 error codes). When I sign off of Yahoo or when I've deleted the Yahoo account and reinstalled it, I've always just unchecked/checked the boxes for the various Yahoo services I want to access -- i.e., mail, calendar, etc. Is there a setting somewhere on my Yahoo account site that I should look for? I'm not sure I'd even know how to manually set up the calendar.

As for using another network, I've had this MacBook on at least three different secure networks -- including my home network -- and I've had the same error message on each.

Thanks, again and I'm open to any further suggestions/questions.

I tried the Connection Doctor. It shows everything is connected and when I tried check again, it shows the connection succeeded. I went to the Yahoo support page and short of deleting the calendar there, which I'm reluctant to do given the recurring dates and not knowing what is there, I really don't see any options. As I said initially, Yahoo calendar dates seem to sync with the iOS calendar app and I have stopped using Yahoo calendar for new entries, so perhaps I should just let this lie and learn to be OK with the error symbol/warning that appears at the top of the Apple calendar app. Unless there are any big downsides to that, that's what I think I'll do. If anyone has thoughts, I'll be happy to hear them. Thanks.
