MacBook 2017 12" - Flickering screen

Hello,

One of the macbooks in the family (a dearly loved Pink 2017 12" macbook) started showing a flickering screen with horizontal lines.

  • No physical damage detected, lines & flickering started spontaneously while plugged into a monitor over HDMI with official Apple USB C adapter.
  • Also flickers on startup, with the Apple logo still loading and when in Safe mode.
  • Tried most troubleshooting steps (SMC, NVRAM, Restarts, ...) to no avail.
  • Diagnosis found no issues with reference code ADP000

The mac runs 12.1, no new software or recent updates.

I fear a hardware issue. Any idea what it could be and what the price would be to fix (and if those parts are still available)?

If not, any idea of a (European) seller that could still have new or refurbished 2017 little pink macs?

Thanks!

Edit: when plugged into external monitor over HDMI, mac screen flckers, external monitor does not

Have you tried to boot in the safe mode to see if the problem persists there?

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
  2. Log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again.
  4. On either the first or second login window, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

follow this steps to boot in to the safe mode

If the problem persists, it is a hardware issue, please contact apple support to set up service for your device
