Upgraded to 14 Pro Max. Can't send or receive messages to Android phones at all now.

I bought new iPhone 14 Pro Maxes for my family for Christmas. We all transferred our data from our old phones on Christmas Eve. Now none of our phones can send or receive individual or group messages with certain recipients. It looks like they are all Android users. I've gone through all of the steps outlined here:

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

I noticed that it says "Send as Text Message". That option isn't available when we tap the red exclamation point icon.

At this point I've spent a couple hours trying to resolve this. I'm disappointed that after spending the money to upgrade our phones that we're having such a fundamental problem.

Messages to/from Android users are SMS messages, sent via your cellular carrier’s methods. SMS messages appear as green, not blue bubbles. The fact you did not see “Send as Text Message” is actually good, because that means the message was never interpreted as an iMessage going to/from an Apple device.

So this sounds like purely a cellular carrier issue. Seek their assistance.

I had this exact same problem after getting two new phones from Verizon. I spent a couple of hours messing around and troubleshooting, I contacted Verizon and reported a mismatch between the ICCID on the phones and the account. After ensuring I restarted my phone and did all the troubleshooting I had already done, they did something magic on the back end, and both phones worked.

TLDR; contact your carrier for help.
