Brand new Ipod Nano Gen 7 not holding charge & constant reset

Hi,

We just gifted our daughter a brand new ipod nano gen 7. We plugged it in and left it charging for a few hours and shows 100% battery. We are able to get it through the set up process while it is plugged in (charging). However, if we unplug it, it automatically dies (doesn’t hold the charge). When we plug it back in, it powers back on, shows 100% battery (while plugged) but it requires to be set up again (language, date, time, etc). This keeps on happening over and over again every time we unplug and replug it in. How do I solve for this?

Being able to use the ipod only while plugged in is NOT a solution to this problem. We need to be able to use it without being plugged in.

We bought this ipod nano a number of years ago and never used it. We didn’t even get it out of the box til today.

Help, please!

..Perhaps the iPod Nano (7th Generation) should have been fully charged

and used, within those years passed by; to at least be certain it worked(?)

iPod nano (7th generation) - Technical Specifications

This model build year series specs were unchanged from 2015. Should it

been serviceable under some extended warranty, it also would've expired.

Probably the battery died within a year after it sat. Generally these require

an overnight charge prior to first use; some may get by with lesser charge.

Usually those units were swapped under warranty, with current one from stock.
