HDMI adapter to stream movies to TV

I’m using an iPhone 11Pro to stream movies via cellular to tv using an Apple HDMI adapter. I can only get sound or picture but not both for current movies. Some very old movies will get both sound and picture but not more current movies. Has in the past but not now. Any ideas?

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities randyfromgordonville,

We can certainly understand your concern and can help provide some insight.

We recommend checking out these steps on using AV adapters and see if it matches up with your procedures.

" About Apple Digital AV Adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

You can use a Digital AV or VGA adapter to connect your iOS device to a display, like a TV, projector, or computer monitor.

Find out which adapter you need

To mirror content from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on a secondary display, you need the correct adapter. To connect wirelessly, use AirPlay.

For iOS devices with Lightning connectors

For iOS devices with 30-pin Dock connectors

Get connected

Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a display:

  1. Plug your Digital AV or VGA adapter into the charging port on the bottom of your iOS device.

2. Connect an HDMI or VGA cable to your adapter.

3. Connect the other end of your HDMI or VGA cable to your secondary display (TV, monitor, or projector).

4. Turn on your secondary display.

5. If necessary, switch to the correct video source on your secondary display. If you need help, use your display's manual.

Now the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch should appear2 on your TV, display, or projector. "

Your answer seems you may not have read my question explains the issue. I’m using the Apple HDMI/Lightening adapter and viewing what’s on my iPhone has not been a problem but now I can only get sound (no picture) or I get the video (no sound). The picture/video is jerky like low band width. This seems to be an iPhone update issue. Please advise. Thank you

Hi randyfromgordonville,

Thanks for getting back to us. If the video is jerky, it could be a cellular connection issue. Do you have a way to test on Wi-Fi? This would help further isolate the issue, as would testing with another TV.

It would also help to test and videos that may be downloaded and saved to your iPhone continue to isolate the issue.

Are you able to test multiple apps where content is streamed? Some content providers may also place a restriction on how content can be streamed from your iPhone to your TV.

Have a fantastic day!
