Greetings twillistration,
Ensuring the images that are sent via email appear as expected is important. Do you notice if this happens with all emails and email accounts you have signed in to Mail? If not, and the issue is specific to one email account, do you have the issue you check the email via the email providers website? If so, reaching out to the email provider is a great step to look in to this issue further. Especially since the issue occurs on two different Macs.
If the issue doesn't occur via the email providers website, the next step would be to update macOS. The latest version of macOS Monterey is macOS 12.6.2. The steps for updating macOS are listed below and can be found in the following article.
- "From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen:
- Choose System Settings. Then click General in the sidebar, and Software Update on the right.
- Or choose System Preferences. Then click Software Update.
2.If Software Update finds new software, click the Update Now or Upgrade Now button to install it.
3.Enter your administrator password, if asked. During installation, your Mac might restart, and you might see a progress bar or blank screen several times."

Also, so that we can look into additional troubleshooting steps, can you tell us if you're using an IMAP account, or POP? If you're not sure, we'd recommend reaching out to your email provider to confirm. This will ensure we do not provide steps that result in data loss.
Let us know how that goes!
