Email Images Not Loading

Certain images are not displaying in my email messages. There is only a small blue box with a question mark in the center of where the image should be.

I have already checked to make sure that Load remote content in messages is checked, so that's not it.

Hi seadub64,

While we're here to troubleshoot issues over Apple Support Communities, there's not an answer we can provide as to the 'why' something occurs. Keep us posted on the results from having those two contacts resending you those photos to see if the issue remains.

While the results from taking those steps would help to narrow down some possible causes, we'd like to rule out some other possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand the issue:

  1. As it wasn't clear, besides the two contacts you mentioned having the issue with, are other contacts able to email you photos without any issues?
  2. When did this first start to occur?
  3. We see from your post that you have macOS 10.15 installed, but the latest version for compatible Mac models would be macOS 13.1. While it's not necessary at this time to upgrade to macOS 13.1, we still recommend making sure you have the latest for the currently installed version, which would be macOS 10.15.7. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.

Cheers!

Hey there seadub64,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

To get started, do the photos not load after closing and reopening the Mail app, or after restarting your MacBook? Shutdown or restart your Mac - Apple Support

Restart your Mac
On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Restart.
If you don’t want app windows that are open to reopen when your Mac restarts, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”

While restarting may seem like a simple step, it can often help with resolving some unexpected issues like this. If still having issues after going through the steps above, give the steps in the next resource a try: If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac - Apple Support

While we understand you're not having issues with receiving the email, the steps above may be able to help with troubleshooting issues with content not loading as expected as well.

Keep us updated on the results.

Take care!

Yep, happening to me also since I upgraded to 13.2.1. (iMac only)

All images in all emails I receive have no images (just the blue box with "?").

I hadn't made any other changes but I deactivated my anti virus, and made the other changes suggested above (and from elsewhere).

Nothing helps.

This started happening many months ago (after first updating to Ventura?) then gradually went away.

Now it's back immediately after updating to 13.2.1

Coincidence? Dunno.

But there is some evidence that Apple updates trigger this problem and that Apple gradually fixes it (behind the scenes) over time.
