Hello, my wife and I have our own iPhones and we each have our own apple id. However, when she changes her profile pic mine automatically gets changes also. (and vice versa). In addition, when she adds or deletes a contact, my contact is also affected(and vice versa). Any suggestions

iPhone XR, iOS 16

It is the picture that shows under the Apple ID section in settings. We are on completely separate Apple ID accounts. The other issue is that contacts are being mysteriously shared

You're either sharing an Apple ID, or maybe referencing a shared CardDAV contacts server.

Was either of these iPhones not fully reset before being transitioned to the current user?

This is the transfer procedure:

This is happening for me too and I can absolutely confirm that said profile picture/account is NOT included in the Settings/Contacts/Accounts information you reference above.
move tried a lot of things - signing out, restarting etc. but nothing works!
it’s crazy.

Confirm you are not sharing an Apple ID, and have no unrecognized clients associated with your Apple ID, and no sharing with other people:

Then… Contact Apple Support. They have visibility into iCloud Contacts data.

Not a solution but have at least stumbled on perhaps why.

It’s somehow linked to the linked card in “my info” setting (Settings/Contacts/My Info where you select the contact that is you). And before anyone asks - the relevant email addresses are not cross-populated across these contact cards. They are completely separate: one is my work if the other is my personal.

Even though I sign in with an alternate Apple ID that is NOT linked to my (personal) contact card, the picture that shows is the one shown in my contact card. Note this is NOT the one shown in the iCloud settings (despite this being the way it’s supposed to work)

this is a weird behaviour. Very buggy.

Whichever card is set as My Card is who you are, in Contacts. Not the Apple ID.

If you’re signing in as different users, you’re quite probably getting different Contacts, too.

And can end up with merged contacts.

Swapping users on macOS is feasible with different logins.

But swapping users is not something common on iPhone or iPad short of a reset.

My card info is correct and I’m having no issues with that. I’ve been an Apple user since 2004 and an iPhone user since the first iPhone 3G so am well aware of how things work. I’ve also never had an issue with switching IDs in certain apps until recently.

Also - this isn’t about transferring the phone to someone else and doing a reset. So that’s got nothing to do with the problem so not sure why you keep mentioning this. It’s totally irrelevant!

So yes, will need to contact Apple and ask what’s happening. Hopefully they can provide an answer!

Swapping IDs is the likely cause here, so not seemingly irrelevant.

Check with Apple, and let us know.

They’ve long considered an iPhone a single-user device.

Whether they consider this ID swapping to be a bug or not is their decision, of course.

This wouldn’t be the first bug, either.
