Kids shows require passcode?
I believe I have done everything I can in setting up our AppleTVs for the best possible family experience. Everyone has their own profile (Additional Users added), and Restrictions set for what we feel is appropriate for each kid in the house.
However, while watching a kids show selected from the home screen isn’t a problem, every episode after requires the pin (unless you have managed to figure out that pressing back from the pin prompt, then selecting Up Next from video controls, and from there playing the next episode, allows you to watch the next episode without the pin). This kills the idea that each of my kids has their own curated experience / can be self reliant and instead are still dependent on me.
”But wait, are you just trying to plop your kid in the tv unattended for hours?? You’re a monster!”
No, I’m not. Let me describe the use case.
It’s an open floorplan, and while I am doing dishes, cooking a meal, getting their snacks, etc - stepping away from the stove or sink every time their 15 minute episode is over and the next one shows up stinks. A poorly timed trip to the bathroom or a phone call that runs too long can suddenly break the peace in the house.
“Teach your kids some patience!”
You should stop reading now. You’ve either never had kids and could never understand, or they have grown long enough ago that you’ve forgotten. This post is for the people living through this pain now.
I’ve already called support and confirmed this is as expected. I didn’t misconfigure something as I had hoped. I am looking for one of the following outcomes:
- someone has a tip on how they resolved this
- Apple takes note and fixes this
- parents respond and we can find comfort in the commiseration
