I bought a MacBook 16.1 and it won't update. 8 t storage connection good,

I am trying to update the first update since I bought this computer and it will not do it. it starts the process one says something went wrong each time. I have plenty of room

Is your current macOS up to date(?) The current stable release of Monterey including bug fixes 12.6.2
