podcasts stop playing with notifications

My podcasts keep randomly stopping with notifications. I turned the notifications off and it still occurs. Very annoying. It just started in the last couple weeks. Typically with texts, email and voice mail/text notification. I have turned the notifications off and still happens. I have to say the operation with the iPhones in the last year and half really sucks. New things that keep making it inconvenient.
