Why is it easy to block a spam text number on iPhone, but not on a Mac?

This is mystifying. Shouldn't it be just as easy to block on a Mac as a phone?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

It is if we look in the right place.

In Messages application >> Menu Bar at top of screen
