NOT ALL photos are showing on PC using USB connection for back up (iCloud DISABLED)

I don't use icloud for photos back up (toggle is off for iCloud Photos). I don't use itunes. I connect my iPhone 8 to my Windows Surface Laptop ( windows 10) using USB cable.

Currently I have around 27k photos and 1k videos on my on my iPhone (approx 200gb of phone storage is taken).

When I connect to my PC- in Windows Explorer: Apple iPhone->Internal Storage (showing 200gb of space taken) -> DCIM folder (only one) -> I see multiple subfolders (with photos and videos). However, only 5 GB of photos and video files are visible on my PC. When I check one by one - a lot of photos are missing (not shown in the folders on my PC), but I can see them on my iPhone. I NEVER use iCloud to back up my photos so they are all must be on my cellphone.

I tried all the following:

1)Upgraded both devices software to the most recent versions

2) Restarted both devices multiple times

3) Used different USB cables and different ports

4) Reset - > Location & Privacy settings on my iPhone

I need help to transfer ALL my photos from iPhone to PC. Please advice how to locate them

Hi turingtest2 - thank you for your reply. I have NOT synced photos to my computer or iCloud before. They supposed to be on my iPhone. When I check the iphone physical storage it shows that it's 200GB of 264GB taken by photos and videos. When I check iCloud.com there is ZERO GB of storage taken. Also I have never turned on the iCloud and toggle is off on my phone.

What do you mean by " you are expected to have your synced originals elsewhere"?

Have you synced photos to the device as well as taking them on it? The DCIM folder only shows the device's camera roll. You're expected to have your synced originals elsewhere. You might try i-funbox. I think you might get access to more images via its raw file system access mode, though I've generally been more interested in getting to iTunes/Music media.

Unfortunately, this is a persisting issue, and I can't see all the photos from my camera roll in DCIM folder. In addition, I don't see any video files at all ( I have around 1k video clips) on my phone storage now.

I have tried the third party tool you recommended ifunbox - It shows me only 500 most recent photos, which is only a fraction of 27k thousands photos I have on my camera roll. Can you advise any other options??

Is it possible to escalate my issue beyond this community chat?
