Why is my Apple Watch asking for my Apple ID every day since updating to WatchOS 9.2?

Ever since my Apple Watch Series 5 was updated to WatchOS 9.2 this week, the watch requests my Apple ID password (NOT the watch passcode which is still required later in the process) when I take it off the charger. This is a royal pain! Any idea what can be done to fix this?

Exactly! I probably wasn't clear on my original post, but xyz11 summarized it perfectly. Thanks...and I hope the clarification results in some kind of fix soon. Complex passwords are difficult to type on the watch...or even on the iPhone as text for the watch unless there's a easy way to cut and paste. Security is one thing, but the added complexity is unnecessary.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, mlhe1950,

We understand you're seeing repeated prompts to enter your Apple ID password on your iPhone. We'd be happy to provide information to help you address this.

Step 5 in this article should help you address this repeated popup: Set up your Apple Watch

Sign in with your Apple ID
If asked, enter your Apple ID password. If you aren’t asked, you can sign in later from the Apple Watch app: Tap General > Apple ID, then sign in. Certain features that require a cellular phone number won’t work on cellular models of Apple Watch unless you sign in to iCloud.
If Find My isn't set up on your iPhone, you'll be asked to turn on Activation Lock. If an Activation Lock screen appears, your Apple Watch is already linked to an Apple ID. You need to enter the email address and password for that Apple ID to continue set up. If your Apple Watch was previously owned, you might need to contact the previous owner to remove Activation Lock

Regards.

I have the same issue and step 5 in the support article you mentioned does not address the problem.

The problem is not an inability to sign in (the article addresses how to sign in). The problem is daily requests to sign-in when a watch is placed on or removed from the charger. In my case it is an Apple Watch Series 6 (original poster had a Series 5). When the prompt.

My Apple Watch is associated with my Apple ID. When the icloud prompt appears it is only asking for the passsword. I enter my apple ID password and everything works fine until the next day when I place my watch on or remove it from the charger and the icloud login prompt returns.

This did not occur before upgrading to WatchOS 9.2.
