I called Apple Support this morning and they said that it’s not recommended to use 2nd gen case for first gen AirPods
they said that’s valid for all models
so would be better to take first gen case through the Apple Service

However you question deserves some response, so let's get a discussion under way!
There are a couple of things online that may be helpful in finding answers.
(1) Apple support article showing all the different charging cases
(Not sure exactly which one you have.)

(2) Discussion thread about the reverse situation (2nd gen in 1st gen case)

Your gen 2 charging case would have a different serial number than the gen 1 AirPods Pro.
(3) Seems those who get "Replacement" cases need to set everything up again
