Mail stuck on "Generating content to print"

I experienced the above problem and found a solution in an old posting amounting to "I went into Mail preferences, and on the Viewing tab, unchecked "Load remote content in messages."

Unfortunately this option is not available any more or has disappeared to somewhere else in Ventura. Can someone provide any suggestions?
