Unable to delegate any calendar to anyone

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max on IOS 16.1.1. I have 4 different accounts with calendars (iCloud, Hotmail, Gmail, and Exchange). I am able to "share" an iCloud calendar with my wife who is designated as "family" through the Calendars app, but I unable to delegate any calendars to anyone through Settings -> Calendars -> Delegate Calendars. The "Add Person" link exists, but when I click on it, no one is listed, and any search yields 0 results.

Ideally, I would like to be able to share a detail-less version of my work calendar with my wife in order to help her see if I'm busy or not, but the bigger issue here that I'm noticing is that I completely lack the ability to delegate any calendars on any account.

I suppose I would appreciate help with either issue, but the inability to delegate has me concerned that something is flawed that might impair my ultimate goal.

Thanks Tammy! It makes a lot of sense that the “delegate” functionality is specific to my Exchange account, which would explain why I don’t see it as an option for any account (only built for 1 type of account, and that functionality is prohibited due to security).

I should’ve clarified that my work exchange calendar does not give me the functionality to make my iCalendar public or share it.

I did find a solution now: in work Outlook, I can “Share” my calendar with others by simply entering their (iCloud) email address. My work has security set up so that non-corporate emails can only see whether or not I’m busy, which is exactly what I wanted.

Hello Chocolate-Thunder,

It sounds like the setting to "Delegate Calendars" is possibly coming from your Exchange account as this is an exchange feature. A bit more information about this can be found on the Microsoft Support site here: Allow someone else to manage your mail and calendar - Microsoft Support

If your work calendar is indeed the exchange account, you'll want to reach out to your IT team to look into options for sharing that calendar.

For your iCloud calendar, you can share it with your wife as you found, and make it read-only access using these steps: Share iCloud calendars on iPhone - Apple Support

Share a read-only calendar with anyone

1. Tap Calendars, then tap next to the iCloud calendar you want to share.

2. Turn on Public Calendar, then tap Share Link to copy or send the URL for your calendar.

3. Choose a method for sending the URL—Messages, Mail, and so on.

Anyone you send the URL to can use it to subscribe to the calendar using a compatible app, such as Calendar for macOS.
