Mail problem

I have problems connecting on Mail with the notice "Connections to the server “imap.gmail.com” on the default ports timed out." While this query has come up before, none of the answers are able to guide me how to solve the problem. Surely lots of people have this problem so there must be a solution that is simple enough to follow. Thanks for your time.

When your Mac's email app attempts to connect to the email server to send or receive emails, your information must be correctly sent within a specified window of time or the server disconnects and sends back that message. The information the server is looking for is your account name, your account ID and your account password. If for some reason any of that data has gotten changed or corrupted a successful connection cannot happen. You need to open Mail's Preferences and carefully correct any incorrect data. If that doesn't work then do the following.

  • Move any saved email messages (in your Mail app) to a local folder so they won't lost.
  • Delete the Mail account.
  • Create and set up a new account.
