Why does iTunes compress photos synced from a PC or iMac to an iPhone?

Whenever a folder/photos from a PC or iMac are synced with an iPhone via iTunes, the video files are copied 1:1 but photos are compressed. A 3 MB 4032x3024 photo is seen in Photos application as a 2 MB 2048x1536 photo. How is this possible, why I can't copy my own pictures on a **** iPhone. Why is this happening, this is not related to Windows, PC or any environmental stuff, this is ALL related to iTunes, the same exact thing happens when copying data from iMac and for other iPhones. This is ridiculous, a 2000$ phone doesn't let you copy your own data to it, exactly as it is.

Thanks for the reply but what would be the point of doing this in such a situation? This is not iCloud, these are photos copied from my PC to my iPhone, I don't want iTunes to compress the photos. I have 300+ GB of photos and videos, a 512 GB iPhone, I don't need and want compression. And sorry but a 1/3 size reduction is noticeable especially for details in a photo.

But you can download them, you've just done so.

These files are only available on my PC/iMac, not on iCloud, these are iPhone photos/videos taken in over 10+ years. The main reason why I don't use iCloud is because for a file to be available in full resolution you have to wait for it to be downloaded. So I'd expect iTunes to allow full resolution copying over from a PC/iMac to an iPhone, I can't believe this is a problem for a company like Apple.

But you can download them, you've just done so.

If you wish to have full size copies of your pictures in portable format, for transfer to another large size display for example, there is probably a better way, such as a portable memory stick. I use a 32GB memory card in the shape of a credit card. I keep it on me, together with my money cards.
