When I tried to Bluetooth my device to the iPhone it prompted me that my MacBook Air is not supported, pairing unsuccessful.

That is because the devices are not designed to pair. You cannot pair a MacBook Air and an iPhone via Bluetooth. There are things you can do with the two devices and Bluetooth, but that is just having Bluetooth turned on for the devices and not pairing them.
