Iphone 12 vs Iphone 13 Pro Max

Why does the iPhone 13 Pro Max's front camera take foggier and darker photos than the standard iPhone 12? I changed my iPhone 12 for a 13 pro max this year and I'm disappointed to say the least and I would have been better off staying with the iPhone 12.
