history and cookies
my clear history and cookies in safari are grey and do not work. How do I delete them?

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. If unable to clear the history in Safari on your MacBook, do you by chance have "Limit Adult Websites" or "Allowed Websites Only" enabled in System Preferences > Screen Time > Content & Privacy? If so, with these settings enabled it would not be possible to delete the history or cookies in Safari. To remove website data in Safari, this setting would need to be set "Unrestricted Access".
