Selecting a default map app in iOS 16 (other than the Apple Map App)?

How do I change the default Map app in iOS 16.1 to Google Maps or Waze?

Thanks, was hoping this was an easy setting I was somehow missing but alas not. I used Waze before Google acquired them and continue to do so. I also have Chrome set as my default browser, which is partly why I assumed I must be missing something with the map app setting defaults. Oh well!

There is nothing any user in this user-to-user forum can do to address your issue. To let Apple know what you want here is a link→Product Feedback - Apple

I use Apple maps exclusively, because Apple does not keep track of your travels and sell the information to advertisers, like Google Maps (and Waze, which is owned by Google) do. And for the past few years I’ve never had a problem with Apple maps. I DID use Waze before it was acquired by Google, and it was superior to either Google Maps or Apple Maps.

I honestly am not sure where to start with improvements. The traffic guidance and usability of the Google apps is just superior. I downloaded the map apps I need. My issue is the annoyance when I select an address but my iPhone cannot figure out what to use (I removed the Apple map app thinking that might allow me to select something else, nope.) There has to be something you can fix so a default app other than Apple maps is an option surely?

Apple is working hard to improve maps and if you would like to leave feedback or a feature request you can here Feedback - Maps for iOS and iPadOS - Apple

As for switching you can download your preferred map app and just use that one. There is no way to set default map app.

You can’t change it if you use Safari or any other Apple apps. If you use Chrome you can choose a default map app.
