iMovie only exporting in 720p

I've been struggling to export a video to 1080p but iMovie will only let me go to 720. I tried the trick of uploading a 1080p clip in the beginning, did all of the steps correctly, and it won't register 1080p clips as 1080p or let me export them. I reset my iMovie, too, deleted all of its preferences and restarted the program/my computer several times. I'm looking for a different trick or some way to get it through my computer's head that I'm putting in 1080p clips!!!

To cover the bases, the project resolution is set to the resolution of the very first video clip placed into a newly created project (a project that never has had any clips previously placed in it). So, place a known 1080p clip as the first clip ever placed in the project. You can delete it later. Then you will be given a 1080p export option.

Be sure to verify that the first clip is in fact a 1080 clip.
