Disk Utility doesn't work.

What happens when you try? And why completely erase everything? Then you are left with a computer that won't function. To erase it, try restarting in the Safe mode and then use Disk Utility.

Disk Utility won't let me use the Erase button. I want to return this 9 year old computer to Apple. All of the files have been transferred to my new one.
