Apple Music Library Corrupted

I have my music stored on a NAS device. It is also backed up to the Cloud as part of my Apple Music subscription. The NAS device may be failing and has led to a corrupted Apple Music database file. In addition to the Cloud backup, I have my library backed up to an external drive. It is made up of an Apple Music folder (subscription songs) .and a Music Folder (purchased songs).

I would like to create a new library on the external drive via Option-Apple Music and then move my backed up Music and Apple Music folders to it. (I can’t use my existing Music Library database as part of this since it’s corrupted.)

Here’s my question: do I need to turn off Sync Library before I do this? My fear is that Apple Music will show two entries per song (iCloud and physical) if I don’t.

What is the correct procedure for this?

Decided to go a different route based on an article on iMore (https://www.imore.com/more-than-100000-tracks-in-icloud-music-library-here-is-the-fix). I recommend that folks look over this article if they have an Apple Music Subscription.

Here’s what I did based on the article:

  1. I moved off using a NAS, the cause of my problem. I moved just my purchased folder to an external drive. (I am no longer downloading subscription music so I deleted that folder.)
  2. I created a music library for all of my iCloud music (purchased & subscribed). I set it to sync but not download.
  3. I then created another library for the purchased music. I set it not to sync.

I will be using the iCloud music library day to day. I can keep adding music with my subscription without any files on my local or external drive.
