Just to confirm, if you do the command of Command+F1 does it not turn off screen mirroring?

You can see options to start or stop screen mirroring in macOS here: Turn Mac screen sharing on or off - Apple Support

"Turn off screen sharing on your Mac

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General  in the sidebar, then click Sharing on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Turn Screen Sharing off."
