16.1.1 time keeps changing

Since the 16.1.1 update my phone has switched back 1 hour twice now - once overnight so I was almost late for work and just now, Thanksgiving night, I looked at my phone and noticed it was now an hour behind my laptop and clocks. I went into Date & Time and turned off the "Set Automatically" and it flipped to the correct time. I guess I'll leave that off until the the next time adjustment? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hey GirlygrrlLA,

It was a good idea to set the time manually until looking into this more. When you have it selected to "Set Automatically" does the correct location show in the Time Zone area? If not, tap Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and make sure "Setting Time Zone" is turned on. Those steps can be found in the following guide too: If you can't change the time or time zone on your Apple device - Apple Support

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
2. Turn on Set Automatically in Settings > General > Date & Time. This automatically sets your date and time based on your time zone.
3. If a message appears saying that updated time zone information is available, restart your device and any paired Apple Watch.
4. Allow your device to use its current location to determine the correct time zone. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services and turn on Setting Time Zone.
5. Check that your device shows the correct time zone in Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone.

Let us know.

Take care!

I am reporting this bug on an iPhone SE model # MP9E2LL/A running iOS 15.7.1.

  • Location Services -> System Services -> Setting Time Zone is turned on
  • Settings -> General -> Date and Time has Set Automatically enabled

The time will jump back an hour, so for example when it is 1:30 PM the phone will display 12:30 PM. This error occurs and resolves itself randomly. Restarting does not always resolve it.

When the time is wrong, the time zone does not load.

When the time is correct, the time zone loads and is correct.

This is infuriating because I rely heavily on alarms to manage my schedule and am now setting double alarms - for the correct time and an hour earlier - and having spurious alarms going off in meetings.
