Suddenly my Siri stopped working. I can't dictate. When I say Hey Siri, it starts, then stops

Suddenly my Siri has stopped working. I can't dictate in anything. When I say "Hey Siri" the little swirl starts but then quits in 1 second. If I hold down the side button and ask her to give me directions, she says "on it" and "still on it" but then says "sorry somethings not working." I've tried closing down and restarting several times. Nothing works.

Hi RadioGirl12,

We know how important it is that you're able to use Siri, and we'd love to help. As a first troubleshooting step for this issue, we recommend checking for and installing any updates to iOS that may be available. Just follow the steps below to make sure you have a current backup, then update if any updates are available. This should resolve the issue if it is related to a bug, or something fun your current version of iOS.

  1. "Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

If the issue remains, we recommend trying the following steps.

Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Language > select a new language there.

Switch back to your correct language, then test to see if this resolved the issue.

Sometimes updating the setting, or changing it, then changing it back can trigger it to work as it should.

Cheers!
