FCPX 10.6.5 extremely slow on Mac M1 MAX MBP

Hi guys,

I'm having big problems running FCPX 10.6.5 on my Mac M1 Max (Ventura 13.0.1). The slightest change like shortening a clip or adding footage takes for ever and even causes FCPX to crash. Unable to work right now.

Anyone else having similar problems? Any tips?

Thanks so much in advance!

Cheers J

Where is the media? In the internal drive or an external and, if the latter, how is it connecting and how full?

Did you download a new copy of FCP from the App Store after removing Chrome?

Delete application preferences.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences. The application will start in a default state, and open an “Untitled” library.

Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.

Media is on a Samsung T7 2TB, connected via USB-C and 1 TB available.

I reinstalled from the App Store.

I checked everything again and noticed that I missed some com.google files so I repeated the whole process. Now it seems to be running a bit better again but FCP still shows beachballs from time to time.

It's way better than before but if you have any other suggestions, they are very welcome.

But tnx a lot already for these useful tips!

How is the T7 drive formatted?

For best results it should be APFS.

Is it connected directly to your mac, and not via some hub?

For comparison, you can try a small test library stored in your internal drive.

Do you see any significant difference in performance?

Note: working with the T7 should be fine, the point of the test is to see if something if there is possibly some performance issue that could be associated with the drive.
