Want to prevent Siri from confirming commands and be quiet

Before the recent IOS update to 16.1.1 a few days ago, I was able to turn off Siri feedback. I find this feedback very annoying (my ringer volume is up all the way) and many times it disturbs others around me, especially early in the morning. If I want to whisper to Siri "set alarm for 9am tomorrow", I don't need her yelling at full volume "you got it!" or "done"!.

Since IOS 16.1.1, I no longer see the option to turn off Siri feedback! Perhaps that option has been moved? Tell me that they didn't remove that option and that there is a way to do this. Have we lost the functionality to make Siri be quiet or is there a way to still do this?

Thanks!

This doesn't help.

I already have the "automatic" setting turned on. After using Siri to set dates, timers, calendars, etc., probably 200 times so far, Siri has responded each and every time so far. I have no idea how "on-device intelligence" would know when I want to hear Siri's feedback or not, but I certainly miss the ability to not have to wonder whether my device thinks I want to hear Siri or not. It would be at least nice to have a separate volume control for Siri.

Yes, that would work, but if I silent my ringer, I will not hear phone calls or notifications.

Hopefully there is a solution that I am missing. I can't imagine that this simple yet powerful functionality was removed.

Hey SherwoodForest155,

We'd be happy to help out. Complete the following steps to ensure spoken responses only occur as expected:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap on Accessibility
  3. Tap on Siri
  4. Select "Automatic" under Spoken Responses.

This can also be done by going to Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Responses. When this option is selected it should use on-device intelligence to determine when to speak them outloud. If you have your ringer on loud, you may want to switch to silent and see if that produces the results you're looking for as well.

We hope this helps out, but if this isn't working the way you'd like for it to, you can also provide feedback here: Product Feedback - Apple

Take care!
