IPhone and IPad - since update to IOS16 Mail very slow to load message content

Since the update to IOS16 suddenly the mail app is working like a snail loading each message content. It takes 2-3 minutes each message.


I found a thread with a similar issue with IOS15 but none of the tips given there fix the problem on IPHONE or on my IPAD. The rpoblem is more severe for my main mail adress that is an old POP3 account that I can't get rid off too many contacts on that e-mail.


Reading email on my PC windows 11 with Microsoft default mail works like a charm with no delay in the message reading so the problem has to be witht he IPHONE / IPAD software or settings.


Anyone having same issue and found a fix?

First, everything else on the phone is working correctly and the mail app is up to date. I realize today that the mail app speed seem ok with my hotmail accounts, and my office account on exchange but I don't get a lot of email on these accounts.


However my main email account is on a POP account and that account is the part on the mail app that is working like a snail. I had a similar problem with the upgrade from IOS 14 to 15 and had to reset the phone and reinstall everything but the the mail app was Ok after until the update to IOS 16.


I tried all the other options listed on your link except with deleting the mail app and reinstalling it and redo my mail set-up. Will try it this week-end but and I had the similar problem with upgrade to IOS 15 we tried that with no success.


Any idea why the POP mail account could be problematic on the mail app after the IOS16 upgrade?

Thanks for checking the troubleshooting offered. Since this is a POP email account, make sure your emails are saved on another device prior to deleting the account and the app.


Otherwise, you may lose the emails since they are not saved on the server like IMAP email accounts. To answer you question, no, there is no specific reason this one or even POP email accounts would run slower.


With many POP email providers out there, and so many devices updated to iOS 16, this seems isolated to your device, or possibly settings with your provider. Contacting the Internet Service Provider to see if they need to update anything on their end to make it more compatible with iOS 16 is also a possibility. They may be working on it and just need a bit more time too.

Ok, I try a few things an nothing works. The reading of email on the mail app is too slow to be usable.


I finally installed the GMail app on my iphone and configure my POP account on it. This app has no problems at all getting my email from my pop account and the speed to get the content of each email is similar to what I had with the Apple Mail App before the update to IOS16.


So, this prove that the problem is not with my POP provider but something that got broken with the update to IOS 16.


Hopefully Apple will identify the problem one day and fix it. I would prefer using the Apple mail app but with continue with Gmail until the issue is resolved.
