Copy External Hard Drive To Another (8 TB) for Back-Up

I have a large amount of data stored on an external hard drive (8 TB). There are thousands of files. I want to back this data up by copying it to another external hard drive. Copy-and-pasting folders leads to errors, I think due to the number and size of files being transferred.

How can I do this accurately and reliably? I repeat the process about once a month and keep a few of the previous back-ups as well as the most current back-up.

Time Machine does essentially what I want to accomplish: time-stamped back-ups of the drive. However, as far as I can tell, Time Machine is only functional for the MacOS hard drive, not external hard drives.

I have and use CarbonCopyCloner. It is not free for ongoing quick backups, but the 30 day trial version can make a copy of your Mac drive to an external drive or copy an external drive to another external drive.

SuperDuper is another good option. It is not free for ongoing smart updates, but the free version can make a one time copy of your Mac drive to an external drive or copy an external drive to another external drive.
