12.9 iPad Pro connected via cable to Mac mini running 12.6.1. iPad receives prompt to trust computer, which is approved and iPad appears in Photos sidebar but not finder sidebar. Cable direct to mini (no hub) Cable is good (obviously) restarted iPad and it appeared in finder sidebar but then disappeared. Restarting doesn't fix it. iPad has latest iOS and Mini has latest Mac OS

To help with your iPad appearing in Finder, work through the steps below:
If you connected your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac using a USB cable and don’t see it in the Finder sidebar, check the following:
• Check that the cable is properly connected. When your Mac and device are connected correctly, you should see that your device is charging.
• Make sure that the device is unlocked and the Home Screen is visible.
• Check that Finder settings are set to show your device in the sidebar. See the instructions below.
Set Finder settings to show your device in the sidebar
1. Connect your device to your Mac.
You can connect your device using a USB or USB-C cable or using a Wi-Fi connection. See Sync content between your Mac and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch over Wi-Fi.
2. In the Finderon your Mac, choose Finder > Settings.
3. Click Sidebar.
4. Below Locations, select the CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices checkbox.
Check the sidebar again, below Locations, to see if your device is showing.
5. Click the device to see the syncing options.
If your device still doesn’t appear in the sidebar, see the Apple Support article If your computer doesn’t recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
