connect 2022 MacBook Pro to old A1081 Cinema Display
Can I connect a 2022 M2 MacBook Pro to a 20" Apple Cinema Display model A1081? If so, does the DVI connection also power the display?

The adapter I gave is the correct one. There are several varieties of DVI plug with Single-Link, Dual-Link. and Analogue options. The 20" display is Single-Link and omits the pins for Dual-Link and Analogue. Dual-Link uses the pins between the two sets of 9 pins. Analogue uses 4 pins around the bar (or sometimes cross). Sometimes DVI plugs are used that have all pins present even though some are not connected. To accommodate these plugs, the adapter has holes for all pins but there are no connections inside for the extra holes.
If you can't find the correct power adapter (65 Watt model A1096), you can also use a larger one, 90 W model A1097 or 150 W model A1098.
You need a USB-C to DVI adapter, such as:

The display gets power from a power adapter.

Thanks Malcolm, unfortunately A1081 displays use DVI -D connectors. So far I haven’t been able to find an adapter with the correct pin configuration - 2 sets of 9 pins with space between and 1 horizontal bar. Any other suggestions would be welcome.
Hi Malcom, thanks for the further explanation. I will certainly now give the adapter you suggested a try.
